Aloha from Maui and The Grand Wailea / by JD Andrews

Only four more hours to go, I said to my daughter on our eleven flight to Hawaii. To break up this long flight, we decided to celebrate each hour that ticked by.  Yes, it is a very long flight from the East coast but when your destination is the Grand Wailea in Maui, it makes things a little easier.

It was a Christmas surprise that was wrapped up in Leis, photos of Maui and my Daughters plane ticket. She didn’t know what to make of it at first but after a few minutes the reality of this Daddy/Daughter adventure sunk in and she was thrilled!

The Grand Wailea, one of my favorite hotels, was so kind in making all the arrangements: an amazing hotel room with welcome gifts, hula Lessons, Luau, Spa visit, poolside cabana, aquarium visit, outrigger canoe tour, special dinners and so much more.

My daughters’ favorite thing?

The Wailea Canyon Activity Pool!

A 2,000-foot-long, 25,700-total-square-foot, 770,000-gallon pool that consists of nine pools on six different levels. Each pool is connected by a river that carries you along whitewater rapids and gentle currents. There are four jungle pools, four intertwining slides, a whitewater rapids slide, a Tarzan pool with rope swing, a sand beach, six waterfalls, caves, three Jacuzzis, an infant pool, the world’s first water elevator, the Lava slide, Ana Puka slide and a swim-up bar (she didn’t go to the bar)

And if you don’t have kids or need some alone time, enjoy the Hibiscus pool which is for guests 18 and older. It’s a 4,850-square-foot Pool named for the giant Hibiscus flower on the bottom of the pool made from over 630,000 pieces of Mexican glass mosaic tile. Plus it has two Jacuzzis.

We had so much fun!

This was our first ‘big trip’ and it’s something we’ll both treasure forever.
