Through Google Glass - Bobsled Hits 5Gs Down the Track! / by JD Andrews

"It's around 5Gs"

What's a G and can I handle five of them? This and many other questions were flying around my brain the day I arrived at Winsport - Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

One G is the force of Earth's gravity - it is this force that determines how much we weigh. At 5 Gs, you'll experience the force equal to five times your weight.

Saying 'yes' to the question "Do you want to go on a Bobsleigh ride?" a few weeks earlier sounded like a fun idea, until you sign that release form and hear how that 'ride' is going to feel.

Piloted by a professional driver, traveling up to 120 km/h while experiencing 5G forces as you make your way down 14 turns on the legendary sliding track. The thrill lasts just 60 seconds but the story will last forever.

So what did it feel like? It was like a wild roller coaster, you get thrown around a little, it's hard to raise your head up when those Gs are pushing you down but at the end of it, I wanted to go again.

Which is it - Bobsleigh and Bobsled? According to Encyclopaedia Britannica:

'bobsledding, also called bobsleighing,  the sport of sliding down an ice-covered natural or artificial incline on a four-runner sled, called a bobsled, bobsleigh, or bob, that carries either two or four persons'

It was great working with Travel Alberta and many thanks to them and Winsport for an amazing adventure!  #ExploreAlberta
